Old Romney

Our Services

Special Services are organised from time to time. See the benefice calendar for details. These are usually at Lammas (2nd Sunday in August), Remembrance and Easter.

When there is a fifth Sunday, we have a Benefice Communion Service which moves around the benefice churches.

History

The village of Old Romney‐ the original Cinque port of Romney, now has fewer than 250 inhabitants. It no longer boasts a school or shop but does retain a pub ‐ the Rose and Crown. The original village was across the main A259 road and was once sited on the bank of the River Rother before its silting up and subsequent disastrous changing of its course to emerge at Rye. Here is our lovely old church of St. Clement's. Like many of the churches on the Marsh it has a Norman foundation and was built on the site of an earlier Saxon church.
