Romney Marsh is one of the last unspoiled areas of southâeast England. The fourteen churches, which presently comprise the Romney Marsh Benefice, are mainly rural in nature but also include the more heavily populated coastal fringe areas of New Romney, Littlestone, Lydd, St Mary's Bay, Greatstone and Dymchurch. A map of the benefice is here.
The Romney Marsh Benefice is part of the Deanery of Romney and Tenterden and within the Canterbury Diocese of the Church of England.
Our benefice vision
We seek to be a Christian Community which is welcoming and witnesses to the boundless love of God; which worships and celebrates His sacraments with reverence and joy; which is equipped to meet the challenges placed upon it by the world and ready to respond to need; which values its wealth of history and tradition, but is able to exist within the culture of today and respond creatively to it.
We will go on developing our benefice vision in the light of the five Canterbury diocesan vision statements.
By God’s grace we want to be a people who are...
…confident & creative disciples of Jesus Christ
...rooted in scripture & drenched in prayer
…living gratefully, giving generously, caring for creation & sharing the gospel
...growing in number & expectations – of God & ourselves
...motivated by justice & love, open to the Spirit & ready for adventure!
In response to this we are working on visionary thinking in each church and in our benefice.
